Terra Linda High School is home to two active Career Technical Education programs supported by Shifting Gears USA — the Car Appreciation and Preservation Program (CAPP) and CTE Construction (BCT A & B). Both programs are hands-on, taught by industry professionals, and qualify for Shifting Gears USA scholarship funding.
Students tear down and rebuild real engines, learn carburetion, brakes, transmissions, and differentials. Taught by John Callas, a working automotive professional. Prepares students for ASE certification and entry-level technician roles.
Two construction tracks taught at Terra Linda: BCT A – Building (carpentry, framing, painting, roofing) and BCT B – Trades (electrical, plumbing, welding, HVAC). Instructors Tom and Erik bring real-world jobsite experience into the classroom.
Shifting Gears USA awards renewable scholarships of up to $2,500/year to CTE and CAPP students at Marin County high schools. Scholarship applications for 2025–2026 are now closed. The next cycle opens in early 2027.
Enrolled at Terra Linda HS in CAPP or CTE Construction. GPA 2.5+. Marin County resident.
